CLINTON - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) recently released the nation's latest Hospital Consumer Assessment of
Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) report in which Clinton Hospital
earned the number- one ranking statewide in four areas. HCAHPS is a 27-question
survey given to recently discharged patients to inquire about their hospital
experience. Broken down into 10 categories deemed important to patients, the
survey asks patients to rate their hospital stay in areas such as: receiving
adequate discharge information and medication instructions, communication with
caregivers, pain management, and cleanliness and quietness of the hospital,
among others.
Clinton Hospital came out on top in Massachusetts in 4 out of 10 areas:
communication with nurses, pain management, communication about medicines
(alongside Fairview Hospital), and quietness of hospital environment (along with
Baystate Mary Lane Hospital). The hospital also scored higher that the national
and statewide averages in 9 of 10 categories.
"I am so proud of our staff for all of its hard work," said Sheila Daly, RN,
MS, president and CEO. "Our team members consistently give 110 percent, and that
extra attention is reflected in the hospital's outstanding scores.
"Improving the patient experience is a growing trend for hospital's across
the country. At Clinton Hospital we have always tried to be attuned to our
patient's needs, and we continue to listen to our patients and make adjustments
as necessary. We are very grateful to the patients that took the time to
complete our satisfaction surveys as it not only acknowledges what we do well
but also provides us with information on the areas that we need to improve on,"
said Ms. Daly
